Train Hits Man Crossing Tracks

A 41-year-old man was critically injured Sunday night when he was struck by a train as he attempted to cross the railroad tracks in the 1200 block of East Jefferson.

According to witnesses, the victim, Harold Burns, was seen running to cross the tracks at about 11:45 p.m. when he tripped, landed on the tracks and struck by an east bound freight train, police spokesman Detective Lyle Gensler said.

Burns was transported by ambulance to Dallas Methodist Hospital.

Detective Gensler said Burns was crossing the tracks in a prohibited area.
