The Grand Prairie Police Department and Grand Prairie Independent School District hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday at the Houston Professional Development Center Gym, 1502 College Street for the new Youth Boxing Program.

The program, that has already reached near maximum capacity with more than 30 youth ages 13 to 16, meet nearly every day with a team of volunteer coaches who teach participants how to box and also help students develop leadership skills to succeed in life outside the boxing ring.

Funded through community and corporate donations, the Police Youth Boxing Program seeks to prepare young people to become successful and productive citizens by providing educational and social development activities, which foster self-esteem and instill leadership attributes.
