Grand Prairie Residents in Tarrant County Now Eligible for Tornado Safe Room Rebate Program
“Historically, we have seen that safe rooms save lives,” said Tarrant County Emergency Management Coordinator Melissa Patterson. “This program will reimburse a homeowner or developer for half the cost to install an individual safe room in an existing or planned home, up to $3,000.”
The current deadline for applicants to complete the safe room or tornado shelter is March 16, 2012. Restrictions apply, so check all details at www.gptx.org/disasters before proceeding. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) just recently approved Grand Prairie’s Hazard Mitigation Action Plan. Because the city’s mitigation plan was officially approved by FEMA, Grand Prairie residents are now allowed to participate in the Tarrant County Tornado Safe Room Grant Program.
The safe room rebate program is funded by a grant from FEMA and will be administered locally through the Tarrant County Emergency Management Office (TCEMO).
