Risk of Strong Storms on Monday

Updated: 12/19/2011 @11:45 a.m.

A strong storm system will move through the Southern Plains and into Grand Prairie on Monday resulting in a good chance for showers and thunderstorms.

While additional beneficial rainfall is expected, severe thunderstorms are possible nearly everywhere across North Texas.

Severe weather will be possible roughly south of a line from Bowie to Emory. Damaging winds and hail to the size of quarters or half-dollars will be possible. There is also a risk of tornadoes in the severe weather risk area. The highest potential for rotating supercells and tornadoes will be south and east of a line from Copperas Cove, to Waco, to Mexia, to Centerville.

Thunderstorms are expected to be fast moving with storm movement likely in excess of 50 mph.

The best timing of severe weather would be late Monday afternoon into the evening hours.

Residents of North Texas are urged to stay abreast of the latest forecast information and rapidly changing weather conditions.
