Police to Enforce DWI “No Refusal” Through New Year’s Day
During the “No Refusal” weekend, police will use search warrants to take blood specimens from people arrested for driving while intoxicated but refuse to take a breath or blood test.
“For the last six years, Tarrant County’s “No Refusal” program has proven to be successful from an evidentiary standpoint and as a deterrent,” said Assistant District Attorney Richard Alpert. “Only one fatality has been recorded during a “No Refusal” weekend since the program’s inception. Almost all of the cases generated have resulted in convictions, either through guilty pleas or trials. The Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney’s Office and the participating law enforcement agencies are determined to ensure that our roads are safe, and that those who place our citizens at risk are held accountable.”
In addition, Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney Joe Shannon said at a press conference on Thursday, that his office will publish on its newly revamped website the names and ages of those who are arrested from 10 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday and subsequently charged with an alcohol-related driving offense.
