Police Talk Suicidal Man Down from Gopher-Warrior Bowl Light Pole
Grand Prairie police this morning talked a distraught man threatening suicide down from a light pole at the Gopher-Warrior Bowl.
The incident began around 5:20 a.m. when the man, upset over a personal relationship, called police threatening to jump off the bridge at State Highway 161 and Interstate 20. When officers arrived there, the man could not be located.
Dispatchers were able to track the cell phone the man was using to the area of Grand Prairie High School. Officer located the man near the top of a light pole east of the Gopher-Warrior Bowl press box at about 7:00 a.m.
He climbed down from the pole around 8:30 a.m.
Sam Buchmeyer, Grand Prairie ISD, Director of Communications, said Grand Prairie High school was not put on lockdown. There were some minor disruptions to schedules in order to keep the students inside while the incident was taking place.
