Grand Opening Ceremony for Grand Prairie Municipal Airport Set

The City of Grand Prairie will celebrate the grand opening of its new municipal airport terminal, located at 3116 S. Great Southwest Parkway, on November 15, 3-4 p.m. The new 6,445-square-foot facility features a large lobby, airport staff offices, a snack bar, pilot’s lounge and large conference room.

Built at a cost of $1.7 million, the terminal design is reflective of an airport hangar with soaring metal and glass, and steel sunshade devices. Simulated stone brings the prairie to the building’s interior and a west-facing wall of windows provides a spectacular view of helicopter exercises and airplane take offs and landings. Energy-saving features include insulated metal paneling, an acoustical metal ceiling and insulated coated glazing. The terminal was designed by GRW, Inc. Finding for this project was provided by the Texas Department of Transportation and the Airport Capital Projects Fund.

“We are proud to have a state-of-the-art facility to greet Grand Prairie visitors and aviators,” Mayor Charles England said. “Nearby sports venues are bringing more aviation traffic to Grand Prairie. The new terminal provides more space in a world-class facility that creates a great impression of our city.”
