Art Students at Work on Empty Bowls Project to Help Feed the Hungry

With help of a grant from the GPISD Education Foundation, art students at both South Grand Prairie High School and Grand Prairie High School along with teachers and school administrators have joined to make ceramic bowls for the Empty Bowls Project.

On December 3, the students will be at the Grand Prairie Farmers Market to sell all the bowls made. The bowls will be filled with soup made by culinary students from Dubiski Career High School.

Proceeds from the bowl sale will go to the Grand Prairie Food and Clothing Co-op to help feed the less fortunate.

South Grand Prairie art teach Barbara Hagle said the project is growing by the day and students are excited to see the enthusiasm they have generated.

She said a representative from the Grand Prairie Food and Clothing Co-op visited with South Grand Prairie High School students to inform them of the need for money to help purchase food for hungry families that are here in Grand Prairie. The students now understand that hunger is not just in a foreign country, but here at home in their own backyard.
