Police Take Part in “White Ribbon Man Up” Campaign

In recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness month, the Grand Prairie Police Department will again partner with the Ina Mae Greene Foundation’s “White Ribbon Man Up” campaign.

Today, male officers and civilians will wear a white ribbon to symbolize “that our future has no place for domestic violence in any form.” Female officers and civilians will wear a purple ribbon to commemorate Domestic Violence Awareness month.

The Ina Mae Greene Foundation was founded by Darlene Greene in memory of her sister who died as a result of domestic violence. The Foundation partners with police departments, domestic violence shelters and other agencies to increase awareness of domestic violence, its impact upon women and children and society as a whole.

Sgt. Cliff Luster, head of the Family Violence and Victim Services Units of the Grand Prairie Police Department, said, “We are happy to participate in the “Man Up” campaign. The ribbons not only make the statement that domestic violence is unacceptable - they offer people a chance to talk openly and honestly about the severity of the problem, identify resources and solutions.”
