Grand Prairie Public Library to Offer Downloadable Music

Beginning in mid-October, the Grand Prairie Public Library will offer the Freegal downloadable music service, giving library card holders free access to hundreds of thousands of songs from Sony Music’s catalog of new and legendary artists.

Under the terms of the agreement, registered card holders of the Grand Prairie Public Library can download three Sony Music tracks in the MP3 format each week at no direct cost via www.gptx.org/library. This service is provided by the Friends of the Grand Prairie Library, Inc.

“We have been waiting a long time for a service like this that delivers great music, compatibility with lots of devices and simplicity of use. We think this will be incredibly popular with our patrons and will help the library in marketing all its services to the community,” said Elisabeth McMahon, librarian.

Freegal is a service of Virginia-based Library Ideas, LLC. “Sony Music has an incredibly expansive and popular catalog and we are really excited to partner with them on this, a very important product for libraries,” said Brian Downing, co-founder of Library Ideas. “A library is a focal point of the community that requires many tools to excite people about library resources. More than anything, that is the reason for the service.”

To get started, contact the Main Library with your name, library card number, and email address. Freegal will email you a password. Visit the Main Library at 901 Conover Drive, email us at infodesk@gptx.org, or visit our webpage at www.gptx.org/library. For further information on Freegal, please email info@libraryideas.com.
