Motorcyclist Killed on Highway 161

Update: 9/2/2011 - 6:30 a.m.

Grand Prairie police said a motorcyclist traveling southbound on Highway 161 was struck by a northbound truck that had turned west into the path of the motorcycle at the westbound service road of Interstate 20 at about 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

The motorcyclist who was not wearing a helmet was thrown from the motorcycle onto the pavement. She was carried by CareFlite helicopter to Dallas Methodist Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.

Police would not release the victim's name because relatives had not been notified.

Sergeant Eric Hansen did say the victim was a Grand Prairie Police Department Detention Officer.

Police later identified the motorcycle driver as Modena Dollison, 43, of Waxahachie.

The driver of the pick-up was identified as Alejandro Pardo, 28, a citizen of Mexico. He was not injured, but was arrested at the scene and charged with Manslaughter. Pardo does not have a driver’s license.

Manuel Lozano, 22, a passenger is Pardo’s vehicle, was uninjured.

The collision remains under investigation.

This is the 13th traffic fatality in Grand Prairie this year.
