KaBoom! Names Grand Prairie a Playful City USA

KaBOOM!, a national non-profit organization dedicated to saving play, recently named Grand Prairie a Playful City USA for its efforts to increase play opportunities for children. This year’s award is the fourth year in a row Grand Prairie has been named a Playful City USA.

This year, KaBOOM! honored 151 cities and towns across the country for their commitment to increase the quantity and quality of play in their community.

“This is a huge honor for us,” Grand Prairie Mayor Charles England said in a press release. “About 10 years ago our citizens voted for a ¼ cent sales tax dedicated to parks improvements and you can really tell all over town. Grand Prairie is known for its outstanding parks and play opportunities. We build community around play.”

Grand Prairie was recognized for its Summer Olympics and Step Up to Health programs that create healthier youth by stimulating their minds and bodies through play.
