House Fire on Avenue C Leaves One Dead

Uptaded: 9/6/2011 - 11:45 a.m.

The Grand Prairie Fire Department is investigating a house fire that started about 10:30 Sunday night in the 2300 block of Avenue C that killed one man.

Fire Chief Clif Nelson said the first arriving firefighters found the house engulfed in flames and the victim standing outside. For some unexplained reason the victim entered the burning house.

Firefighters tried to follow the victim into the house, but were unable to get to him. The firefighters used a water line they had pulled to the door to make their way into the structure and rescued the victim only seconds after he entered the house, Chief Nelson said.

He was declared dead at the scene.

Chief Nelson said late Sunday night that the victim had not yet been identified and the Dallas County Medical Examiner would take custody of the body.

On Monday, Lieutenant Randy Willis, Fire Investigator, identified the victim as Arnoldo Salgado, 37. Lieutenant Willis said Sunday's fire started in the living room area, its cause is undetermined.
