Fire Department Begins Vial of LIFE Program
Vial of LIFE is a program that allows individuals to provide medical information in advance that can be used by first responders such as firefighters, paramedics and police in the case of an emergency at a home.
The kit includes a large, labeled, red and white capsule looking container to hold a medical form which has been filled out stating the health status of the individual and current medications being taken. The container is placed in the refrigerator, usually recommended to be on the top shelf of the door, because it has been shown that the refrigerator's contents are preserved in the event of a fire.
Included in the kit are a refrigerator magnet and a sticker for the front window so first responders know to look for the vial.
Firefighter Sam Cary, who introduced the program to the department and association, said Vial of LIFE kits will soon be distributed to all fire stations and is available at the Public Safety Building. The kits are free to anyone in the community. Person interested can call 972-237-8300 for more information.
