Elderly Grand Prairie Women Dies in Highway 161 Crash
Police said Jose Cruz Mancilla, 41, of Grand Prairie was driving a 2002 Ford Expedition westbound on Dickey road when he ran a stop sign at Highway 161 while attempting to continue west on SW 14th Street.
A 2002 Chevrolet Venture van operated by Billy Bannister, 71, of Grand Prairie was southbound on Highway 161 in the center lane when it collided with the passenger side of the Expedition, causing it to overturn.
Juana Mancilla, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle. The vehicle then rolled on top of her. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Jose Mancilla and four other passengers in the Expedition were taken by ambulance to Parkland and Children’s Hospitals in Dallas with non-life threatening injuries.
Bannister was taken by ambulance to Methodist Dallas Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
The collision remains under investigation.
This is the 17th traffic fatality in Grand Prairie this year.
