100-Degree Weather Returns, Record Highs Expected
The National Weather Service in Fort Worth said Monday morning that highs in North Texas are expected to climb to or eclipse record levels today and Tuesday.
Highs today should reach 100-degrees and the record high on Tuesday is expected to be shattered as the high climbs to around 105 degrees, five degrees above the current record.
If the temperature reaches 100 degrees today, it will tie the all time record for number of 100 degree days in a year at 69.
Record heat combined with very dry air in place will bring afternoon relative humidity values down below 20% today. Even though winds are only expected to be about 5 to 10 mph out of the south, fire weather danger will be high. Fire danger is expected to be higher on Tuesday due to stronger winds around 10 to 15 mph.
The record high temperatures and very high fire danger are due to a cold front approaching the area Tuesday. Unfortunately, this front is expected to stall out near the Red River late Tuesday afternoon.
