Richard Whitman and Brent Rogers with Dallas Children’s Charities and Patrick Jackson, Manager of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center in Dallas picked up twenty-five refurbished computers Monday from GEEP in Grand Prairie to replace the outdated computers at the MLK Center's Community Technology Center.
GEEP is an electronic recycling firm with eleven locations and a state-of-the-art facility in Grand Prairie.
John Krakowiak, General Manager of GEEP in Grand Prairie, said Richard Whitman with Dallas Children’s Charities approached him about the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center’s need for new computers. He said he was able to put together a package that included computers, hardware, new Windows® software and technical support that would get the computers to the center for GEEP’s cost.
“To me it’s just what you do,” Krakowiak said. “We see the needs and if there is any way we can help, we help.”
Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center Manger Patrick Jackson said the computers will be used in programs such as introductory computer, math and reading improvement, TAKS test improvement and GED courses.
Dallas Children’s Charities is a non-profit charitable organization whose goals are twofold. The first is to provide at-risk Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex children with gifts at Christmas time and the second is to help those community organizations that work with at-risk children throughout the year.
