Pedestrian Dies After Being Struck by Vehicle

Grand Prairie police said a mentally challenged man, James Elmore, 22, died Friday night at Dallas Methodist Hospital after he was struck by a car while he was in the roadway in the 3300 block of Hardrock Road.

In a press release, Sergeant Eric Hansen, Traffic Division, said Elmore was struck around 9:30 p.m. by a southbound Honda Civic driven by Ethan Cook, 20. Evidence at the scene suggests that Cook was traveling in excess of the posted 35 mile-per-hour speed limit, but the primary cause of the crash was due to Elmore failing to yield the right of way to oncoming traffic, Sgt. Hansen said.

Cook, who did not have a driver’s license, was not injured in the crash.

Sgt. Hansen said it has not been determined what charges may be filed on Cook.

This is the 10th traffic fatality in Grand Prairie this year.
