One Killed, Two Injured in I-20 Crash Sunday Morning

Grand Prairie police said an accident that occurred just after 4:00 a.m. Sunday morning on Interstate 20 at Great Southwest Parkway killed one man and injured two others.

Sergeant Eric Hansen, Traffic Division, said Taja Deweese, 22, of Arlington was driving a 2000 Honda Accord westbound on I-20 when she crashed with a barrier causing her car to become disable in the lanes of traffic.

Deweese and her passenger, Michael Garza, 32, of Arlington, had just climbed from the wreckage when the Honda was struck by a 1993 Jeep Cherokee that was westbound in the right-center lane.

The impact of the crash caused the Honda to strike Garza. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Deweese was not injured.

The driver of the Jeep, a 50 year old Arlington man, suffered serious injuries. He was taken to Methodist Dallas Medical Center for treatment. His 16 year old son, who was riding in the front seat, was also taken to Methodist with minor injuries.

Officers at the scene determined Deweese was intoxicated. She was charged with Intoxication Manslaughter and Intoxication Assault. She is currently in the Grand Prairie Jail.

This is the 11th traffic fatality in Grand Prairie this year.
