Market Square Hosts Hatch Chile Festival

With two tons of Hatch Chile peppers on hand for roasting, Market Square kicked off its second annual Hatch Chile Festival Saturday morning. Added to this year’s event was the Association of Grand Prairie Artists’ Art Walk that featured benches hand painted by Grand Prairie artists and art displays from local artists. The benches sat in Market Square and outside the Thorne building at 123 W. Main St.

Last year’s festival sold out its 1,300 pounds of peppers in three hours. So, this year Grand Prairie more than doubled its order to make sure people can get some of the peppers that were grown in Hatch, NM and have the distinction of being called The World's Best Chile Pepper.

Amy Sprinkles, Director of Communications & Marketing for Grand Prairie, said at 10:30 a.m. half of the supply of peppers had been sold. She expected to the remainder to be gone by around noon.
