High Schools Begin Football Practice
Under the brutal Texas sun and the area in the grip of a record heat spell, high school football players took to the field Monday to begin practice for the tradition revered by many Texans, Friday night high school football.
With plenty of water available for the players, coaches and trainers closely monitored the athletes as they put them through drills to get ready for the season that begins in just four short weeks.
Football players were not the only ones enduring the heat to get ready for football season, on a parking lot of South Grand Prairie High School and in the Gopher-Warrior Bowl the Warrior and Gopher marching bands and drill teams were hard at work perfecting their routines.
The Gophers begin their season on September 2 against Bishop Lynch in the Gopher-Warrior Bowl.
South Grand Prairie, under new head coach Brent Whitson, kicks-off its season on road September 2 at Mesquite.
Season tickets are available at the Gopher-Warrior Bowl ticket office from 8:00 a.m. to noon and 1:00 to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
