City Begins Stage 2 Water Restrictions

Public Works Director Ron McCuller announced at Tuesday’s City Council Briefing session that it is necessary to implement the city’s Drought Contingency Plan Stage 2 water restrictions in order to maintain adequate water storage for fire and safety measures.

McCuller said that since August 1 the city has exceeded its wholesale supply of water by two million gallons per day thus drawing on its reserves.

He added that the Stage 2 restriction could become long term. One of the city’s wholesale water suppliers, Tarrant Regional Water District (TRWD), has advised him that due to low lake levels, beginning September 1 it plans to mandate to its buyers to have two day per week lawn watering restrictions.

The city’s contract with the TRWD requires it to follow the TRWD’s mandate, McCuller said. He continued that the duration of the water restrictions depends on lake level recoveries.

The city's Drought Contingency Plan Stage 2 water restrictions include:

  • No irrigation on Saturday, Sunday or Wednesday
  • No irrigation between hours of 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Even number addresses water on Monday & Thursday
  • Odd numbered addresses water on Tuesday & Friday
  • Irrigated areas with no address (e.g. street medians) to water no more than 2 days per week
  • Hand held hose, drip irrigation and soaker hoses allowed anytime.
  • Non-essential uses curtailed – e.g. Gas well, ornamental fountains, City government specified reductions, etc.
  • Gas well operations will require variance and be considered on case-by case basis.
  • Residents may wash vehicles at home during restrictions with a hose and bucket if the water does not run continuously.
  • Do not use the water hose to wash off sidewalks and driveways.
