The National Weather Service said the current heat wave is expected to continue for Grand Prairie this weekend and into next week. The current string of days over 105 degrees could reach or break the all-time record that was set in the summer of 1980.
The persistent upper ridge responsible for the heat spell is forecast to move west by mid-week bringing the possibility of an afternoon thunderstorm to interrupt the streak of 105 degree days.
Temperatures the next several day should remain dangerously hot making heat related deaths
and illnesses more likely.
The heat will continue to strain water and energy resources across the state as well.
