Tropical Storm Not Expected to Bring Relief to Area

At midday, the outer rain bands from Tropical Storm Don were nearing the lower Texas coastline. The storm's center is located about 165 miles east of Brownsville. Maximum sustained winds remain at 50 mph, though some slight strengthening is still possible before it makes landfall late tonight or early Saturday.

The upper level high over the region will keep Tropical Storm Don on a west-northwest track well south of North Texas. Tropical Storm Don is forecast to make landfall in South Texas and continue moving into Mexico Saturday.

The widespread and beneficial rains should remain across South Texas. However, an increase in tropical moisture over North Texas means that there will be a low chance of mainly afternoon showers and storms today and tomorrow.
