Six Killed in Shooting at Skate Rink Birthday Party

A private birthday party at the Roller World Skating Rink, 1900 S. Great Southwest Parkway, turned deadly Saturday when six people were killed, four others injured in a shooting that police believe stemmed from ongoing domestic problems.

Police were notified at about 7:10 p.m. of a shooting at the skate rink. Officers arrived on scene a short time later and located five deceased victims, the suspected gunman with a wound to the head and four other victims with non-life threatening injuries.

The injured were treated by Grand Prairie Fire/Rescue and transported to area hospitals.

The suspected gunman Tan Do, 35, was later pronounced dead at the hospital from an apparent single, self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Names and conditions of the other victims were not released.

Police spokesman Detective John Brimmer said Tan Do and his estranged wife Trini Do, 29, were hosting a private party for one of their two children. It is believed the couple’s ongoing marital problems led to the shooting.

Deceased include:

Tan Do and his wife Trini Do
Two sisters of Trini Do: Lynn Ta, 16, and Michelle Ta, 28
A brother of Trini Do: Hien Ta, 21
Trin Do’s sister-in-law: Thuy Nguyen, 25

Detective Brimmer said it appears Tan Do targeted his estranged wife and her family members. The couple’s two children were unharmed and are with other family members at this time.

There were approximately 30 friends and family members attending the private party at the time of the shooting. The skate rink was not open to the public. Roller World employees working at the time of the shooting were not injured.

Grand Prairie police crisis counselors and the police chaplain continue to work with the surviving victims, witnesses, and family members.
