Steve Dye was sworn in as the Chief of Police by Grand Prairie Mayor Charles England at a reception held Thursday at the Public Safety Building.

Looking on as Chief Dye took his oath of office was his wife Noemi who later pinned the chief’s badge on her husband’s uniform.

Dye who has twenty-seven years of law enforcement experience was the Chief of Police for Colleyville. He has also served with the Arlington, Houston, and Garland police departments.

“My first goal is to get to know the department and the personnel,” Chief Dye said. He plans in the coming weeks to visit with every division, talk with the personnel to get to know the department’s operations.

Chief Dye added that he also plans to meet with business owners, civic groups, and community leaders to learn the needs of the community.

Chief Dye said the Grand Prairie Police Department is a great department and he is only looking to add to it so it can keep progressing into the future. “Under my leadership we will have a professional, transparent, caring and a service oriented department. We’re going to go the extra mile to provide a high level of police service. At the same time we’re going to work very hard to protect this community from the criminal element.”
