Hinson Shoots Down AirHogs in Series Opener
After three Wichita Wingnuts combined for a no-hitter in their last game on Wednesday, the Wingnuts continued their hot pitching on Friday night, as three more hurlers led by lefty Ryan Hinson combined to shut out the Grand Prairie AirHogs 5-0 in front of 1,567 fans at QuikTrip Park.
The Wingnuts (32-27) led from the first inning, scoring three runs after two were out against AirHogs starter Lance Janke (1-1). They got two more in the fourth to knock out Janke, but Wichita could not score any more against the relief duo of Jason Moody (2 2/3 innings, one hit, four strikeouts) and Cody Railsback (3 innings, two hits, one strikeout).
But the AirHogs (39-19) did not get their first hit until the fourth against Hinson, and did not take advantage of their best threat that inning, when David Thomas flied out to right with the bases loaded to end the inning.
Grand Prairie did not get another runner in scoring position all night against Hinson, who went seven innings, allowing four hits, three walks and six strikeouts, or either of his two relievers, Kendy Batista and Jared Simon, who each pitched a scoreless inning to finish things off.
