The National Weather Service in Fort Worth said Grand Prairie can expect to experience continued hot temperatures with low chances of rain this week.
North Texas remains on the southern edge of a persistent upper level high pressure currently centered over the Central Plains. This pattern results in low chances of rain and extended period of hot temperatures.
The area of high pressure is expected shift eastward the second half of the week and build back to the west on the weekend. This shift will result in lower rain chances across North Texas late in the week through next weekend.
Temperatures will remain hot through the week with highs near or slightly above 100 and overnight lows from the mid 70s to the lower 80s. The current heat advisory may need to be extended for some locations for the first part of next week, especially across the northern half of the area.
Looking ahead to the last week of July, extended models continue to show a stagnant and hot pattern with little chance for needed rainfall.
While this period of above normal heat is persistent, we will need several more weeks of 100 degree temperatures to rival the impressive heat waves of 1980, 1998, and 2006.
