Hatch Chile Festival and Art Walk Hits Downtown

Delicious world-renowned Hatch chile peppers, chef demonstrations, an Art Walk, Farmers Market, bounce houses and concessions hit downtown Grand Prairie at the Hatch Chile Festival and Art Walk from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. at Market Square, 120 W. Main St., Grand Prairie, Saturday, August 20, 2011. Farmers Market will start the day from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m., with Hatch chiles being sold from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. and the new-this-year Art Walk kicking off from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Open-flame roasted and fresh chile peppers from Hatch, New Mexico, will form the basis of the festival. Hatch, New Mexico, enjoys the distinction of being the home of The World's Best Chile Pepper, according to a report by the BBC World News. Many say just by tasting a chile pod, you can tell whether the pepper was grown in Hatch.

The Art Walk, hosted by the Association of Grand Prairie Artists, steps off at 10 a.m. and winds down at 4 p.m. The Art Walk will feature benches hand painted by Grand Prairie artists. The benches will sit in front of a Main Street business indicating inside that business is an art show. Get your Art Walk Passport stamped at all bench locations and enter a raffle for a flat screen television. Passports will be available at Farmers Market.

In addition to the festivities, Grand Prairie’s weekly Farmers Market offers delicious locally grown fruits, vegetables, produce and products.

The day’s events include:
