Cats Beat AirHogs 14-1 at QuikTrip

By Josh Hirsch

It took the Grand Prairie AirHogs six innings to get their first hit Monday night, while the Fort Worth Cats had no such trouble, trouncing the AirHogs 14-1 in front of 710 at QuikTrip Park behind a complete game, three-hitter by righty Dwayne Pollok.

After David Nathanson (1-4) and Pollok (2-3) traded fewer-than-10-pitch 1-2-3 first innings, the Cats (25-29) took the lead on an RBI groundout by Brian Fryer in the second. After a scoreless third, Fort Worth broke the game open, getting four runs on three hits and two walks to make it 5-0, before adding another quartet in the fifth on a two-out grand slam by Butch Ballez.

Pollok retired the first 10 batters he faced before walking David Thomas with one out in the fourth. He retired the next eight, before Thomas again got on, this with a clean single up the middle for the AirHogs' first hit. Thomas would score that inning on Cesar Nicolas's RBI groundout, but that was the only time Grand Prairie (37-18) would push across a run.

In addition to Ballez's five RBI night (he added an RBI single in addition to the grand slam), Marcos Rodriguez went 6-for-6 with three doubles and three singles, the second player in as many days to achieve a 6-for-6 day, after Danny Figueroa did it for the AirHogs in Amarillo on Sunday.
