Public Hearings Scheduled to Discuss City Council Redistricting

The City of Grand Prairie is holding two public hearings for residents to view and discuss the City Council Redistricting in Grand Prairie:
City Council Chambers – City Hall, 317 College Street
July 28, 2011 at 6:30 p.m.

Betty Warmack Library, 760 Bardin Road
July 30, 2011 at 10 a.m.

The population count from the 2010 Census has shown that the population in Grand Prairie City Council single member districts is out of balance and must be redrawn to comply with the U.S. Constitution’s one-person, one-vote principle.

The population in the city’s most populous district must not exceed the population in the least populous district by more than 10 percent. The Grand Prairie City Council has proposed a map showing proposed boundary line changes.

Residents interested in suggesting changes to the proposed maps must submit a complete plan and map which includes all districts to the City Secretary by July 22, 2011.

The proposed map is available online or can be viewed at the following locations:

City Hall, 317 College Street
Main Library, 901 Conover
Warmack Branch Library, 760 Bardin Road
Bowles Life Center, 2750 Graham Street
Charley Taylor Recreation Center, 601 E. Grand Prairie Road
Dalworth Recreation Center, 2012 Spikes
The Summit Active Adult Center, 2975 Esplanade
Prairie Paws, 2222 W. Warrior Trail
Development Center, 206 W. Church Street
