Winning Streak Hits Six as Grand Prairie Tops Kansas City

By Josh Hirsch/Grand Prairie AirHogs

For the third day in a row, the Grand Prairie AirHogs scored multiple runs in the first inning, never were tied or behind the rest of the way, and cruised to another win. This time it was a 5-2 win over the Kansas City T-Bones at CommunityAmerica Ballpark, giving Grand Prairie a six-game winning streak.

David Espinosa started the game with a base-hit that hopped over the head of the first baseman Nick Farnsworth, went to second on a wild pitch and scored on a single by David Thomas. Thomas then stole second and scored on Cesar Nicolas's single to give the AirHogs (12-5) the early lead.

Grand Prairie starter Jason Jennings (2-0) did not have his best command on Monday, walking three and throwing 34 of his 81 pitches for strikes, but he worked around trouble to earn his second win in as many starts. The only run he allowed was Nick Farnsworth's first-pitch, two-out solo home run in the second, despite having only one perfect inning in his five frames.

After the home run got the T-Bones (7-10) to within 2-1, the top of the AirHogs order went to work again against T.J. Large (1-3) in the third. Espinosa walked to start the inning, went to second on a wild pitch but was then thrown out trying to go to third - but that did not slow the AirHogs down. Thomas lined another single and Nicolas smashed a 3-2 pitch over the centerfield wall for his third home run of the year to make it 4-1.

Grand Prairie got one more run on a wild pitch in the sixth, and that was plenty for Jennings and four relievers. Jon Fulton was out of the bullpen first and allowed a hit in the sixth inning. Bo Schultz came next and had a perfect seventh before giving up a solo homer in the eighth to Jimmy Mojica. Dustin Cameron relieved Schultz with one on and one out in the eighth, and induced a double play from Jonathan Jaspe to get out of the inning. Jon Hunton then took over in the ninth and worked around a two-out single to pick up his seventh save of the year and third in as many days.
