Teacher Re-elected to Statewide TCTA Office

Gina G. Gola, a grade 6 science teacher at John Adams Middle School in the Grand Prairie Independent School District, has been re-elected as statewide Governance committee chair of the Texas Classroom Teachers Association. Gola’s new two-year term begins June 1, 2011. Founded in 1927, TCTA is an independent, nonunion association for Texas teaching professionals, which serves more than 50,000 members across the state.

Gola was elected in February at the association's annual convention in Austin. In this position, Gola oversees the committee that recommends changes and reviews proposals affecting the Association’s structure and governance. As chair of a statewide committee, she also serves on the 10-member TCTA Executive Board and on the Directors’ Council.

Gola has been a TCTA member for 16 years, and previously served four years on the TCTA Directors’ Council as district 10 director and two years as vice-chair of the Governance committee. In addition to her statewide service, she is active on the local level with the Grand Prairie Classroom Teachers Association, where she has served as president, secretary and chair of the membership and legislative committees. Gola received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Texas at Arlington.

Gola has served as Science Department chair for the past 10 years and as a member of the Science Curriculum Design team and the Education Improvement Council for Grand Prairie ISD. She is a member of the Science Teachers Association of Texas, National Science Teachers Association, Texas Earth Science Teachers Association and Texas Environmental Education Association.

The 2011-12 TCTA Directors’ Council also will include Nanette Sissney of Whitesboro, TCTA president-elect; Brad Willingham of Dallas, immediate past president; and Cecelia Clark of Whitesboro, Patty Langley of Denison and Twila Read of Grand Prairie, serving as district 10 directors.

TCTA is based in Austin and is the only statewide teachers association that limits active-level membership to those directly involved in classroom teaching or teaching support.
