Parkland Breaks Ground on New Grand Prairie Health Center

Parkland Health & Hospital System officials, Mayor Charles England, City Council Members, and Dallas County Commissioner Dr. Elba Garcia broke ground on Parkland’s newest health center at a ceremony held Tuesday at the former site of the Grand Prairie Police headquarters, 801 Conover Dr.

“This clinic is extremely important for our community,” said Charles England, mayor of Grand Prairie. “Thousands of Grand Prairie residents will be able to take care of their health care needs here in town now instead of having to travel Parkland hospital in Dallas.”

The 33,000-square-foot health center, set to open October 2012, will be the newest of Parkland’s 12 Community Oriented Primary Care (COPC) health centers. The health center will provide pediatric, adult, geriatric and women’s health care as well as support services including laboratory, radiology, pharmacy, nutrition, psychiatry, psychology, social work, language assistants and Community Dental care. Patients will also have access to other health care services offered at COPC sites throughout Dallas County, including podiatry, TB screenings, HIV services and other specialty care.

“Parkland’s mission isn’t just about treating illness, it’s about prevention, and primary care is the best way to prevent simple illnesses from becoming serious chronic conditions,” said Sharon Phillips, Parkland’s senior vice president of Community Medicine. “This new clinic, in turn, will not only help the residents of Grand Prairie, but will help create a healthier community for everyone.”

Construction of the health center, located on 4.8 acres, is being funded equally by Parkland and the City of Grand Prairie.
