Finalist Selected in Search for New Police Chief

Friday, Grand Prairie City Manager Tom Hart announced that Colleyville Police Chief Steve Dye is the lone finalist for Police Chief.

Hart said the city received more than 100 resumes for the job. He narrowed this to a list of eleven candidates that met the qualifications, traits, and experience he was looking for in a Police Chief.

The eleven candidates were then video interviewed. The videos were reviewed by a panel including the City Manager’s Office, Mayor England, Human Resources Director Lisa Norris, and Acting Police Chief Michael Shaw.

“After getting feedback from the panel, I narrowed these applicants down to the finalist candidate, Steve Dye,” Hart said. “Steve’s experience, background, leadership, innovative ideas and community efforts made him stand out among the candidates as our top candidate.”

Dye’s background includes:

Colleyville Police Chief since 2010
Garland Police Department: 1996-2010; Assistant Chief 2004-2010
Houston Police Department: 1991-1992; 1984-1987
Arlington Police Department: 1987-1991
Hart added that Dye has led many innovative initiatives, has a strong sense of community, fluent in Spanish, and has the ability to lead, challenge, set and achieve goals, and engage his personnel.

A meet-and-greet is planned next week to introduce Dye to members of the Police Department and for a tour of the Public Safety Building. There are also several networking sessions in small groups with police personnel, the city’s executive team, City Manager’s Office, the Mayor and City Council setup.

At this time no offer has been made, Hart said. “During the next week, we will continue to do our due diligence in background and reference checks to ensure this candidate meets our expectations in a new Chief.”
