Volunteers build new community garden at Barbara Bush Elementary

On Saturday, dozens of volunteers took part in a joint Keep Grand Prairie Beautiful and Grand Prairie ISD project to help build a forty raised bed community garden at Barbara Bush Elementary School, 511 E. Springdale.

The workers used cinder blocks to construct the beds that were filled with a special soil mix.

The garden is Grand Prairie’s fifth community garden and will help place some of the more than 300 families who have signed up to participate in Grand Prairie’s Community Garden program.

One of the workers, Rachael Beesinger a long-time volunteer at Bush Elementary, said the garden build was not only an opportunity for her to expand her volunteer work outside of the school and into the community, the work helped her learn how to build a vegetable garden she has planned for her home.
