Outlet mall construction to begin in May
Paragon Outlets announced Tuesday at the City Council Briefing session that construction on the long delayed outlet mall to be located near Interstate 20 and Great Southwest Parkway is scheduled to begin in early May. The mall is expected to be completed by late summer to early fall 2012.
Originally the outlet mall was a 2008 project of Prime Outlets set to open in 2009. Economic conditions and the sale of Prime Outlets to Simon Properties in 2009 put the project on hold.
Paragon Outlets, a firm comprised of former Prime Outlets senior management, took over the project after Prime Outlets was sold.
To meet current market demands, Paragon will build a slightly smaller mall than was originally planned in 2008. The new plan does allows for future expansion while retaining the original architectural design that include a series of connected arcades and courtyards in a continuous open-air loop configuration with shops and an on-site food court.
Paragon has decided on an upscale outlet market approach much like that of the San Marcus Premium Outlet. Several key tenanats are already committed:
- Lacost
- Tommy Hilfiger
- Nike
- Gap
- Guess
- Children’s Place
- and other top name retailers
Paragon expects the outlet mall to be near one hundred percent leased at opening.
