The Grand Prairie ISD Board of Trustees on Tuesday night approved a contract naming Brent Whitson as the new head football coach/athletic coordinator for South Grand Prairie High School.

Whitson who comes from the Richardson ISD has been Richardson High School’s football coach for the past four seasons compiling an 18-24 record. After going 0-10 in his first season, Whitson took Richardson to the playoffs the last two seasons.

Prior to coaching at Richardson, Whitson was “a very successful head coach in Oklahoma where he won a state championship and took another team to the state semi-finals,” GPISD Athletic Director Troy Mathieu said.

Whitson took Broken Arrow, Oklahoma to the playoffs all three seasons he coached there.

Whitson replaces Rob Davies whose contract was not renewed after three seasons as the Warriors head football coach.
