Run For The Wall (RFTW), the annual cross-country motorcycle ride that honors all veterans, calls attention to prisoners of war, and those missing in action that for many years has attracted large groups of supporters and well-wishers as it passed through Grand Prairie on Interstate 20, now makes the city one of its stops on its the trip from California to Washington, DC to take part in Memorial Day celebrations.

Richard Moore, Southern Route Coordinator, said the ride made the change this year to stop in the Dallas/Fort Worth area for the first time in the ride’s history because of requests from riders, veterans groups, and supporters.

He said 350-450 motorcycles in the ride are expected to arrive at its host hotel, the La Quinta Inn, 2131 W. Interstate 20, around 6:00 p.m. on May 21. Programs and events are scheduled at the hotel along with a church service set for Sunday morning before the ride departs around 9:00 a.m. for Monroe, LA on May 22.

All the programs are open to the public, Moore said. He encouraged everyone, including children, to come to the La Quinta Inn, see the various bikes, meet, and thank the many veterans.

Moore added all riders participating in RFTW are responsible for their own expenses including food, lodging and fuel. He said various groups, civic organization and businesses do provide some financial help along the route buying fuel, drinks and snacks, with many cities hosting meal stops for the riders.

Civic groups, churches, businesses, and supporters interested in helping with this year’s stay in Grand Prairie can contact Moore at 871-366-2058. Run For The Wall is a 501(c)(3) organization.
