Grand Prairie man killed fleeing accident

Edgar A. Neri, 23, of Grand Prairie was killed Tuesday evening when the car he was driving crashed into a barrier at the northbound frontage road of State Highway 161 and the intersection of British Blvd.

Police said Neri was driving a 1999 Buick Century westbound on I-30 at about 7:50 p.m. He exited onto the northbound frontage road of Highway 161 striking a 2006 Mazada stopped at the traffic signal.

Neri fled from the collision at a high speed, travelling a few hundred feet where he collided with a noise reduction barrier. He was transported by ambulance to Methodist Dallas Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the Mazda that was initially struck was not injured.

Sergeant Eric Hansen, Traffic Division, said the collision remains under investigation. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash.

This is the 5th traffic fatality in Grand Prairie this year.
