ATF to assist Fire Department with its investigation

The National Response Team (NRT) of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), along with ATF special agents from the Dallas Field Division arrived today to assist the Grand Prairie Fire Department with its investigation into Monday’s fire that destroyed a large warehouse located at 1029 Post & Paddock Road.

A team of two dozen agents and specialist will begin its on scene investigation Saturday.

"ATF is investigating this fire jointly with our partners, the Grand Prairie Fire Department. We will work together to determine the origin and cause of this fire," said Robert Champion, ATF special agent in charge of the Dallas Field Division.

This is the 6th activation of the NRT in fiscal year 2011, and the 714th activation since the inception of the team in 1978. The NRT has been activated to scenes such as the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, the Oklahoma City Murrah Federal Building bombing and the 9/11 Pentagon crash site.

The 400,000-square-foot, 800-foot-long warehouse that housed a variety of material, including aluminum bottles, direct mail, Pitney Bowes equipment was declared a total loss estimated at more than $25 million.
