Winter Storm Warning for Tuesday – travel could be treacherous

The National Weather Service in Fort Worth has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Grand Prairie for sleet, snow, and freezing rain effective from 3 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday.

An upper level storm system will move across tonight and early Tuesday and will bring widespread rain to the area. An Arctic cold front will arrive early Tuesday. Between 4 a.m. and 7 a.m. temperatures will drop below freezing and the rain will change over to sleet and snow. Around 1/2 inch of sleet is expected. An additional 1 to 2 inches of snow are also possible.

Temperature will fall into the 20s and lingering precipitation and moisture is expected to freeze on all road surfaces by midday, making travel treacherous if not impossible.
