Steelcase closing Grand Prairie plant - 200 jobs cut

Office furniture maker Steelcase, Inc. announced Wednesday that its Grand Prairie plant located at 1800 S. Great Southwest Parkway is one of three manufacturing facilities the company is closing. Production from the Grand Prairie facility will be moved to other Steelcase locations in North America.

In a press release, company president and CEO James P. Hackett said, “We continue to make improvements to our industrial system, which have left us with excess capacity to support current and anticipated future demand.” He concluded, “Actions such as these are never easy, but reflect the need for the organization to be as fit as possible in the highly competitive environment in which we operate.”

Steelcase spokesperson Jeanine Holquist said the Grand Prairie facility has about 200 workers and the company plans have it closed in eighteen months. She added the plant’s employees will be given a severance package.
