Reagan Middle School collects winter wear
On Friday, Reagan Middle School donated to Grand Prairie Food and Clothing Co-op sixteen large boxes of warm clothing the students donated to help the less fortunate stay warm as winter approaches.
The school’s student council and sponsors Janaye Easter and Delise Chavers came up with the idea as a way for the students to give back to the community.
“Most of our students here at Reagan are fortunate to have their basic needs meet,” said Student Council sponsor Janaye Easter. “We wanted them to be a part of something positive for the community.”
The Warm Winter Wear Coat and Jean Drive, that began on November 17, urged students to bring in new or gently used jeans, coats, jackets, winter hats, scarves, gloves, and mittens to “make sure as many people as possible stay warm and toasty this winter.”
“I feel really good about donating and I’m just happy to make other kids happy that don’t have as much as I have,” said Mya Lloyd a seventh grader at Reagan.
Kaitlyn Carr, Student Council Public Relations Coordinator who was responsible for getting the message of the Warm Winter Wear Coat and Jean Drive to Reagan students, said, “We’re doing a good deed for the community and maybe we can set an example for another school to do the same.”
