King Foundation awards $20,000 grant to Grand Prairie Wellness Center
“We are deeply grateful to the King Foundation for this much-needed funding which will help us to continue providing these services to those most in need,” Chuck Poffenbarger, Board President, said. The center provided urgent and preventive medical care to medically vulnerable children, adults and families. Those needs continue to grow each year. Many would not have any medical services without these funds.”
Since it's opening in November 2001, the center—located at 1710 Small Street, Grand Prairie, Texas-- has served thousands of low-income families with quality medical and dental services totaling over $3 Million in medical value. Doctors and nurse-practitioners volunteer their time to provide free medical and low-cost dental services to low-income families, with family income at or below the 125% federal poverty guidelines. Volunteers are also used in variety of positions.
Carl B. and Florence E. King started the Foundation that bears their names in 1966. Beginning with gifts from Mr. and Mrs. King, as well as a later bequest from their daughter, Dorothy, the Foundation has now grown to more than $50 million in assets and distributes approximately $2 million per year.
“We operate through the generosity of others,” Poffenbarger said. “Without the help from foundations, corporations and individual donations, we would never have survived these last couple of years. This grant from the King Foundation will help give hope and medical care to those who need it most—particularly during the winter months.”
