Grand Prairie Police Department earns CALEA re-accreditation

The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) voted to approve the Grand Prairie Police Department’s second law enforcement accreditation award on November 20. The department was first accredited in 2007 and stands as one of only 30 law enforcement agencies in Texas and about 600 internationally as an accredited law enforcement agency by CALEA.

During Grand Prairie Police Department’s three-year re-accreditation process, the department’s accreditation team documented all aspects of the department’s policies, procedures, management, operations and support services and gathered detailed proofs of compliance according to CALEA guidelines. Outside assessors from other accredited law enforcement agencies conducted an onsite visit to review the department’s ongoing compliance with CALEA standards. CALEA-accredited law enforcement agencies must meet a body of professional standards and are required to maintain those standards demonstrating excellence in the profession of law enforcement.

To complete the process, recently retired Police Chief Glen Hill and Accreditation Manager Carlo Pacot appeared before a panel of CALEA commissioners who conducted a final review of the onsite findings. The review panel unanimously voted to recommend Grand Prairie Police Department its second accreditation award to the full CALEA Commission.
