Grand Prairie United Charities (GPUC) began distributing Christmas assistance Monday to 336 local families that would not have a Christmas without the help of the charity.

Nicole Ford, Angel Tree Coordinator at GPUC, said each family will receive toys for the children and food for a Christmas meal thanks to the generosity and help from local residents, corporate sponsors, and other charities.

Ford said the families were screened and their names were placed on one of the three Angel Trees at Wal Mart for adoption by individuals, families, churches, and organizations.

With Monday and Tuesday set aside at GPUC for distribution of the toys and food, everyone tries to keep the mood festive, lively, and in a Christmas spirit, Ford said. “It’s rewarding to see the parents so grateful for what they receive,” she added.

Undreia Wright who outside the center struggled to load a bicycle, gifts for her three children, and food for a holiday meal into her compact car said, “It makes me feel good that somebody actually cares about me and my family.”
