Shoppers brave cold weather for discounts
While many were still enjoying their Thanksgiving meal or watching football, dozens of dedicated bargain hunters lined up outside retail stores to be one of the first inside to pick up some of the special sale items on the day retailers call, Black Friday.
With the temperature in the thirty’s and stores not opening until 3-4 a.m. Friday, shoppers started showing up as early as 5:00 p.m. Thanksgiving evening to make sure they got their special item.
Andrew Valdez of Grand Prairie along with his brother was the first in line at the Target, 554 West Interstate 20. Valdez said he braved the cold to get a 40 inch flat screen television, a GPS, and a camera.
Wearing several layers of clothes and was drinking hot chocolate to stay warm, Valdez said, “As long as I get my TV I’ll feel plenty good, that’ll warm me up on the inside.”
Not all of the shoppers were lined up to get big ticket items. Deanna Vuong said she began her wait outside the Target Store, 5270 South State Highway 360 at 12:30 a.m. Friday to buy some of the small appliances that were on sale.
