Santa Cop/Santa Spot was recently notified by the company that for the past four years has graciously provided warehouse space for storage, it now needs the space and Santa Cop/Santa Spot will have to move out after the first of next year.
The non-profit organization, operated by Grand Prairie police officers and firefighters to provide toys and food to deserving Grand Prairie families, helped 455 needy families last year.
Officer Mark Calvert, president of Santa Cop, said it needs approximately 10,000 – 15,000 square feet of space. He added that since Santa Cop/Santa Spot is a 501-3-C charitable organization, a warehouse owner could receive a tax benefit for donating space.
If donated space is not obtained, Officer Calvert said, the organization would have to rent storage at a great cost to the program.
“Worst case scenario would be, ‘Heaven Forbid,’ we would have to liquidate our assets, and would not be able to provide for the less fortunate of Grand Prairie,” Officer Calvert said.
Anyone interested in helping Santa Cop/Santa can contact Officer Calvert at 972-237-8814.
