One year-old killed in crash with suspected drunk driver

A three car accident on Interstate 20 early Sunday morning killed a one year-old Arlington boy and injured three others.

The accident that occurred at about 1:30 a.m. in the westbound lane near State Highway 161, shut down the westbound lanes of the freeway for about five hours while police investigated the accident.

Police said Noel Romero, 31, of Arlington was driving a 2000 GMC pickup when he ran into the back of a 1999 Chevrolet Blazer driven by Maria Rangel, 22, of Arlington.

The impact of the collision pushed the Blazer into a 1999 Mercedes driven by Clement Grant, 28, of Arlington and ejected three passengers from the Blazer.

Ab Yahir Sotelo, 1, of Arlington was taken by CareFlite helicopter to Childrens Hospital in Dallas where he died of injuries.

An unidentified passenger remains in critical condition at Methodist Dallas Medical Center. The driver, Rangel, is being treated at Parkland Memorial Hospital for internal injuries.

Another passenger, Yahaira Sotelo, 3, of Arlington was treated and released at Childrens Hospital in Dallas.

Grant, driver of the Mercedes, was not injured.

Romero who fled the scene in his damaged pickup was later stopped by Arlington police. He is currently in the Grand Prairie Jail charged with Intoxication Manslaughter.
